History

Paul J. Hagerty High School opened in 2005 with a freshman class. A year previously, a competition was opened to Seminole County Public school students that would be attending the school to name the mascot and decide the school colors. Student Emma West won this writing competition, giving the school the mascot of the Huskies and the school colors of blue, black and silver. Every year up until the 2008-09 school year, a new grade was added. As of the 2009-2010 school year, the second senior class was in place. The Seminole County School Board named the school for its school superintendent Dr. Paul J. Hagerty who retired in 2003 having served as superintendent since 1992.

Before the school became a high school, it was Lawton Chiles Middle School for several years while construction on several buildings continued. Principal Sam Momary oversaw all construction. During the 05-06 year, Hagerty was opened and new lines were drawn for the county. Many middle school students were switched to Jackson Heights Middle School or the newly constructed Lawton Chiles Middle School.

Extracurricular activities

Hagerty High School has athletic programs in lacrosse, volleyball, tennis, swimming, golf, football, cheerleading, cross country, bowling, weightlifting, track and field, basketball, water polo, soccer, softball, wrestling, baseball, and JROTC. Hagerty is in the Seminole Athletic Conference.

The Hagerty High School marching band received "Superior" ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Association District 6 marching band evaluations in years 2005-11. In 2008 the Husky Band received first place and became the Grand Champions of the Durant High School Marching Competition. This was a first for the Husky Band, because not only was it the first competition they have won during the 2008-2009 Marching Season but it was also the first first-place win the Husky band has ever received. In 2011, the band participated for the first time at FMBC State Championships. They finished the night as Class 5A State Champions with a score of 93.4. The band is also well known for its famous "Rhapsody In Blue" concert. The Band was under the direction of Mike Rice between the years of 2005-2009. Later in the year of 2009, Director Todd Leighton - previous Band Director of Lake Howell High School - took control and was assisted by Associate Director Chris De Leon, who had joined the Husky Band earlier that year.

The Hagerty High School Women's volleyball team has acquired five (5) of the eleven (11) student/athlete graduates of HHS Women's Volleyball Program to the next level, college volleyball. The recipients of these scholarships include Mandy McIntosh (2010), Lauren Colton (2010), Anna Volz (2011), Allison Maurer (2011) and Candice Johnson (2011).

Each year Hagerty plays crosstown rival Oviedo High School for "Oviedo's Annual Football Challenge Cup", which was established in 2008. Hagerty emerged victorious and won the inaugural cup game. Oviedo won during the second year of the Cup, beating the Huskies. Hagerty once again won the third year. The Oviedo–Hagerty varsity football rivalry is currently at a record of 2-2, with Hagerty winning the cup twice and Oviedo twice.

The Hagerty High School newspaper, the Blue Print, gained the "All Florida" rating (with a score of 962 out of 1000) for outstanding achievements for the first two issues of the 2007–08 year.
